The efficacy of glycolic acid for treating acne-Analysis using newly developed facial imaging systems equipped with fluorescent illumination

Glycolic acid (GA) peeling is known to be effective for acne treatment. For the quantitative evaluation of this treatmetn on acne, computer assisted facial imaging systems were used, which enabled us to assess acne spots, pigmented spots, skin color tone, pore sizd, skin texture and porphyrin spots. This quantitative analysis clearly shows the efficacy and limitation of GA tretment of acne, and might help to disclose the precise mechanisms of GA effects on the skin structure and function. The bvasic mechanism of GA on skin cells were discussed.
