This study aims at establishing a standard testing method for evaluating the durability of short fiber reinforced concretes. Effectiveness of the test by soaking into cement alkali hot water was investigated experimentally. The test probably accelerates the deterioration of the mechanical property of the fiber and the bonding property between fiber and concrete matrix. As for the test conditions, the water has a temperature of 60 deg C and the same constituents as those of water in capillary voids of concrete matrix. Some fibers were selected from artificial organic and inorganic ones available to fiber reinforced mortar and concrete such as Aramido, Polyvinyl alcohol, Polyethylene, Acrylic, Carbon, Alkali resistant glass and Steel. The variations with time of flexural strength and toughness of the specimens under the accelerated degrading test and the natural exposure test were measured. A comparison between the former and the latter showed that the two tests have the similar tendency of deterioration. The accelerated degrading test by soaking into cement alkali hot water is useful sufficiently to evaluate the durability of short fiber reinforced concretes.
