Intercalation behaviors of alkali metals into natural graphite flakes in the solutions of dimethoxymethane (DMM) and diethoxymethene (DEM) containing alkali metals have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction. Ternary graphiteintercalation compounds (GICs) containing lithium were obtained from the solutions of Li-DMM and Li-DEM. On the other hand, binary GICs were prepared from those solutions for K, Rb and Cs. Sodium did not dissolve into the solvents.
