Peculiarities of nitrates reduction and accumulation in amaranth plants

The dynamics of nitrates absorbtion and reduction in organs of Amaranthus cruentus L. was investigated in vegetative experiments with nutritious solutions during the onthogenesis under two levels of nitrogen nutrition. Nitrates were unevenly localized in plants and their organs. With high N-dose amaranth accumulated in tissues nitrates, inaccessible for reduction. Maximal activity of nitrate in the phases of budding and flowering was found in roots (in comparison with other organs) and maximal nitrates accumulation -- in the stems of amaranth. It is shown that determination of only nitrate reductase activity does not inform objectively about the intensity of processes of nitrate assimilation and accumulation in amaranth organs.
