Combining ability for finishing performance and carcass traits in crossing Large White sows with Large Black and Duroc boars.

In Russian Large White (RLW), Large Black (LB), LB X RLW and Duroc X (LB X RLW) pigs (12 per group), age at 100 kg averaged 231, 227, 219 and 205 days respectively (P<0.05), carcass length 119.8, 120.7, 121.3 and 123.6 cm, and backfat thickness at the 6th-7th thoracic vertebrae 30.7, 31.7, 31.8 and 28.2 mm (P<0.05). Dam effects on the traits were greater than the sire effects. Correlations among the traits are tabulated.
