System of the genus Carpelimus (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) within the Palaearctic region. 1. Introduction and description of new taxa [Russian]

The long-term studies of the genus Carpelimus allowed one to present a new system and review of species of this genus for the Palaearctic. The division of the genus into subgenera is reconsidered, the species groups are allocated. Superspecies are designated in some groups for the first time. The new species and subspecies are described: Carpelimus pseudovagus, C. porphyreus, and C. niponensis from Japan; C. despectus fujiensis from Japan and China; C. plesius and C. foveolatus from Central Asia; S. suavis from the Middle Volga River basin and Central Asia. Some species are synonymized: C. cooperi (Cameron 1951) syn. n. = C. anthracinus (Mulsant and Rey 1861); C. calidus (Bernhauer 1943) syn. n. = C. nigrita (Wollaston 1857); C. sharpianus (Cameron 1933) syn. n. = C. angusticollis (Bernhauer 1907); C. gradensis (Bernhauer 1914) syn. n. = C. foveolatus foveolatus (C. Sahlberg 1834); C. championi (Cameron 1912) syn. n. = C. alutaceus (Fauvel 1898); C. irakensis (Abdul Rassoul and Coiffait 1971) syn. n. = C. simplicicollis simplicicollus (Wollaston 1857); C. nigrinus (Smetana 1967) syn. n. = C. manchuricus subtilicornis (Roubal 1946); C. leederi (Bernhauer 1940) syn. n = C. despectus despectus (Baudi 1869). Keys to identifying the Palaearctic Carpelimus species are given with illustrations.
