Influence of former experience on modification of the parasitoid Exetastes atrator (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae) behavior in search for host [Russian]

In the laboratory and field experiments, the role of experience in the behavioral modification during the time of searching for host was studied. Exetastes atrator, a larval parasitoid of Noctuidae spp. was a test species. This parasitoid can use host-specific volatiles in search for host without a prior contact with cues from the plant-host complex. The experiments with E. atrator in olfactometer demonstrated its learning ability. The experience obtained helps E. atractor to find the host. The experienced E. atractor females waste less time for searching than inexperienced ones due to their directed actions: they do not inspect the same microhabitats several times. The time spent for the search for the host, expecially less preferable one is shown to be different. The differences revealed are explained by the influence of the experience obtained by the parasitoid female under the first contact with the host.
