Color polymorphism of Tortrix viridana (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) larvae and pupae [Russian]

Variants of the head capsule pigmentation and those of color intensity of chest and anal tergite were described in the oak leafroller moth, Tortrix viridana. The relationships between the frequencies of all three characteristics in the variants were found. The less pigmented larvae were of larger body size. Three variants of intensity of pupae coloration were described. The association between the frequency of pigmented variants and sex were revealed. The more pigmented pupae had significantly greater masses, but they died from diseases more often and during emergence of adults. The difference in vectors of natural selection at the larva and pupa stages of development as a mechanism stabilizing a population is discussed.
