MORPHOTYPICAL VARIABILITY OF TEETH IN MARTES MARTES AND MARTES ZIBELLINA (CARNIVORA, MUSTELIDAE)

摘要

Morphotypical variability of Martes martes and M. zibellina teeth (P3, P4, M1, i3, p3, p4 m1, and m2) was studied. A total of 9560 teeth of pine martens and sables from different locations have been analyzed. A description and morphotype frequency are given for each species. Species-specific dental patterns were identified for all the species studied. The sable demonstrates very high morphotypical variability; it differs from the pine marten by the more complicated occlusal surface of most teeth under study.
