Spatial distribution of the bezoar goat, Capra aegagrus (Artiodactyla) population in the Eastern Caucasus [Russian]

Seasonal features of the spatial structure of Capra aegagrus (Erxleben 1777) population in one of its preserved breeding grounds in the Caucasus (Daghestan, the upper Sulak River basin) were studied. Significant differences in the distribution of males and females over the territory depending on the aspect and steepness of slopes, elevation above sea level, and the plant cover pattern were revealed. The differences of sex and age groups of the goats in some ecological and physiological parameters are shown to determine different requirements for protection and fodder and their spatial distribution as well.
