Herpes folliculosebaceous ulcer in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia: an ulcerative variant of herpes folliculitis associated with herpesvirus invasion of folliculosebaceous units in immunocompromised hosts.

A 58-year-old Japanese man presented with a 1-month history of an ulcer on the upper lip. He had been treated for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia with fludarabine for 2 months.On physical examination, a punched-out ulcer, 8 x15 mm in size, was seen (Fig. 1). The patient reported that he had no pain and only slight burning. There were no vesicles or pustules present, and moustache hairs were easily pulled out.
