A significant dependence of the Ficedula hypoleuca population on climatic fluctuations was revealed based on the data of long-term studies (1980-2000) in Karelia (60degrees46' N, 32degrees48' E). The temperature regime in late-April-early May was responsible for arrival dates and nesting population density. The general pattern of spring warming affected the reproduction parameters, such as clutch size and brood volume, dates, success, and productivity of reproduction. The most substantial influence on birds was exerted by weather in May when the totality of effective temperatures (above +5degreesC) reached 150 degreesC, and minimum air temperatures steadily exceeded +2 degreesC. Air temperatures and precipitation in June when birds hatch and feed nestlings had a smaller effect on nesting success. Spring weather triggers reproduction and is responsible for its major parameters, such as population productivity etc.
