Morphological and faunistic study of xylophilous flower-flies of the bombylans group of the genus Temnostoma (Diptera, Syrphidae) [Russian]

The study of the species from the bombylans group of the genus Temnostoma Le Peletier et Serville showed that all the previously known species were polymorphous and diverse in coloration and pubescence of the body, but they are similar in the structure of genitalia. The new species, T. angustistriatum related to T. bombylans Fabr. was described, the previously known species T. nitobei Matsumura was redescribed. The species mentioned differ in morphology of frons, pubescence of face, coloration of legs and some genitalia details. T. bombylans bombylans Fabr. is found to inhabit European Russia and Ukraine, but T. bombylans flavifemur ssp. n. foothills of the Caucasus. T. angustistriatum is spread in the territory from Moscow region to the Far East and registered in european part along with T. bombylans bombylans. T. nitobei with three light bands on abdomen was recorded from the Altai to the Kunashir. Some characteristics of this species vary to some degree. Some additional specific features were revealed for T. nitobei and T. bombylans. A key for identification of the species and subspecies is provided.
