To history of developing the recent reptile fauna in Bashkiria [Russian]

The problems of origin and development of the contemporary reptile (10 species) fauna in Bashkiria are discussed. A brief characteristic of climate, landscapes, and vegetation is given. The paleontological data on Cenosoic fossil reptiles found in seven locations of Bashkiria (the Southern Urals, Russia) and adjacent territories are summarized. Five species of reptiles were identified. The Pliocene-Pleistocene glaciers affected greatly the development of the herpetofauna. The contemporary herpetofauna of Bashkiria began to develop in the late Pliocene and to the middle of the Holocene it has been formed due to dispersion of reptiles from refuges. The Ural mountains and anthropogenic factors affected little the development of the recent fauna of reptiles in Bashkiria.
