Positioning and navigation systems at crossroads of civil and security uses

摘要

Global positioning and navigation satellite systems, with the U.S. GPS at its core, are producing vast civil applications and markets. While Increasing apprehensions are being voiced worldwide of its hostile use and the threat of navigation warfare, only limited awareness exists here due to Peculiar Japanese sensitivities on security. Its implications transcending the civil and security sides are summarized, with references to the Japan-U.S. GPS Meetings, the CGSIC and AIAA activities.
