Activities of draft committee for Japanese industrial standard 'testing method for vickers hardness of fine ceramics'

Preparing process of a new Japanese Industrial Standard "Testing Method for Vickers hardness of fine ceramics at elevated temperature" is reported. In the study for the preparation of a draft, the effects of the shape of the specimen, holding time of test force, pre-heating of indenter, temperature for the measurement of indent diagonal, on the Vickers hardness are discussed. A draft of the standard was prepared from the results of these studies. The draft has these characteristic subjects; (1)Temperature range for the application is up to 1300℃. (2) Pre-heating of the indenter should be carried out in accordance with the equipments. (3) Five tests are required for each test condition, and an average value and a standard deviation should bereported. (4) Other items for determining the test condition are described.
