The goaf cavity filling method designed by Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH and developed to operational scale in co-operation with Ruhrkohle AG (RAG) in the recent years allowing to fill cavities behind operative caving faces before the loose rock gets compressed by the load of the caving roof. The fill is pumped through pipelines from the surfaces right to the face, as a pasty suspension consisting of highly concentrated fine-grain mineral and fly-ash residues containing a minimum water. The suspension is injected via tubes trailed on the floor until some 15-20 m into the caved-in area. By combining longwall caving techniques with trailing pipe technology the face equipment will be simplified compared to stowage methods applied so far.
