Three pre-treatments were compared on barley seed: (1) direct ozone treatment for 30 minutes or 2 hours; (2) treatment with ozone via a layer of water for 40 or 60 minutes, and (3) UV radiation at 6 or 8 kJ/m2. Pre-treatment of the seed improved thegrain yield and the number of productive stalks. In further experiments, seed of buckwheat, rye, oats and wheat was treated with 6.5, 8, 9, or 11.5 kJ/M2. Most of these UV treatments increased plant growth, the best results being observed with 11.5 kJ on wheat, 9 kJ on buckwheat and oats, and 8 kJ on rye.
