Single crystal elastic constants ofβ-CuZn have been measured over the temperature range from 100to 300K. Near cube shape specimen with about 5mm in edge length were prepared from singlecrystals with varying compositions from about 41 to 48 at % Zn. Measurements were made by therectangular parallelepiped resonance method.The elastic anisotropy factors, A, are of the order of ten, which is very much larger than that fortheα-phase copper alloys. The value of A is larger for specimens with smaller Zn contents, anddecrease with increasing temperature. Such trends are considered to be associated with the latticeinstability. The latter is manifested by the existence of the martensitic transformation of lowertemperatures for specimens with lower Zn contents.
