An approach to inter-multicasting using flexcast and report of inter-pacific experiments

We proposed an autonomous pervasive multicast scheme - Flexcast. Flexcast uses just unicast messages, so that it can work even in traditional IP networks, where IP multicast routing is not supported. Flexcast delivery trees are construeted automatically without any pre-configurations. In this paper, we introduces Flexcast Gateway, which translates Flexcast protocol and IGMP transparently. This enables IP multicast applications to work in the traditional IP networks. Results of field experiments are also shown.
