Mobile IP (MIP) was designed to support host mobility over the Internet Although Mobile IP (MIP) enables a Mobile Host (MH) to continue its ongoing sessions after a handoff, it suffers significant end-to-end performance degradation. It is mainly the long registration delay in MIP which makes the handoff latency longer. As a result, burst packet loss degrades end-to-end performance. To overcome this difficulty, many micro-mobility schemes have been proposed. The available buffering schemes that have been proposed to prevent and recover from packet loss are also for micro-mobility where the MH moves within a domain. In this paper, we propose a buffering scheme at the Home Agent (HA) to prevent packet loss and improve end-to-end performance implicitly in case of inter-domain handoff. Our buffering scheme eliminates the necessity of re-encapsulation at the Foreign Agents (FA), implementation of other protocols like Mobile IP Route Optimization and improves inter-domain handoff i.e. macro-mobility performance.
