Laboratory and Evaluation Methodology for Biometric Devices in Security

In these uncertain times, where knowledge of and ease of access to special places or information is critical, the use of biometrics for person-al authentication is becoming convenient and considerably more accurate than current methods (such as the utilization of physical devices, passwords or PINs). This is because bio-metrics links the identification or authentication to a particular individual (a password or token may be used by someone other than the authorized user), because it is convenient (nothing to carry or remember), accurate (it provides for positive authentication), can provide an audit trail, and because it is becoming socially acceptable and inexpensive.
