摘要

The panel spalling test was conducted with refractory castables forsteel ladle lining to examine effect of coarse aggregate size on thermalspalling resistance. With increasing of coarse aggregate content in acastable, aggregates distrbution in a castable changes starting fromuniformly dispersed state up todensely packed state through tangent state of forming and growing of cluster.Minimum aggregate content sufficient to initiate cluster forming decreases whensmaller aggregates included in a castable.With increasing coarse aggregate content in a castable, its thermal spallingresistance gradually increases up to its optimum, then decreases, because offorming and growing of cluster, upto its lowest level at which cluster hascompletely grown up to one large solid cluster entirely over a specimen. Withfurther increasing of coarse aggregate content, thermal spalling resistanceincreases again due to formation and growth of densely packed structure ofcoarse aggregates in a castable.
