Recent techniques of bridge fabrication inMitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. have developedmainly in cooperation with construction of anintegrated fabrication system using CAD/CAM. Thesystem includes automatic designing/draftingsystem, automatic molding system and machines! robotsfor cutting, drilling, assembling and welding of steelplates which are controlled by NC data generated in theautomatic molding system. These systems have made alarge contribution toward improving accuracy of theproducts and raising productivity of bridgefabrication This paper introduces the bridgefabrication equipment and robots and the computertechnology for trial assembly of bridges where theassembly work can be simulated numerically in a computer.
