RUBY-BEARING MINERALIZATION IN SLJUDJANSKY COMPLEX OF THE SOUTH-WESTERN BAIKAL REGION

Ruby-bearing rocks occur in dolomite marbles of Sljudjansky complex widespread in two districts of the region. Near Sljudjanka town corundum has been found in some bodies of zonal magnesian skarns in association with forsterite, spinel, phlogopite, amphibole, calcite. There are two varietics of corundum: 1) translucent pink and graysh-pink, 2) water transparent pink and ruby-red. In Tunkinsky district (Buryat republic) corundum-bearing rocks occur as vein-shaped and pocket-like bodies with rarely disseminated forsterite, ruby-red and pink spinel, and the water-transparent pink and red corundum. In both two sites spinel is characterized by low contents of hercynite and other minals increased Cr_2O_3 and V_2O_3 contents. In general, ruby-bearing mineralization was connected with postultrametamorphic conversion of the earlier skarns and calciphires under the effect of deep (mantle) fluids.
