摘要

Polymetallic ore deposit Pavlovskoye located atthe South island of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago is the mostnorthern one in the European part of Russia. Investigatedcomposition, coloring and morphology of sphalerite from thisdeposit allow to make some conclusions about the mineralforming process and formational belonging of the ore field.Among trace elements the studied sphalerite has unusuallyhigh contents of Ag and Bi, but rather low concentration of Cd.From this point Pavlovskoye deposit reminds the sphalerite-galena ore formation of nearby Vaygach island and the Pay-Khoy region. From the other side, clear variability incomposition and morphology of the mineral show an instabilityof the mineral forming environment. For example, no less thantwo generations of sphalerite related to different stages of theprocess are distinguished.
