Elongated rhombohedron-shaped crystals of pyrite from the mount Kinzhal (the Northern Caucasus, Russia) have been studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction method, goniometry, optic microscopy (in polarized reflected light). The observed morphology symmetry corresponds to the Curie's principle and supports the old P. V. Eremeev's hypothesis (1887) that a pyrite crystal could obtain the rhombohedrical form due to degeneration of 6, from 12, faces of pentagon-dodecahedron (210). This consept allows to suggest a specific mechanism of the observed symmetry formation, which assumes, by the way, the influence of an electric field while the pyrite crystals growing.
