Adsorption Characteristic of Bisphenol A-Imprinted Polymer

Bisphenol A (BPA) is known to have an estrogen activity to biological system, which exist in various river water samples. In this study, a BPA-imprinted membrane (BPA-IM) was synthesized as an adsorbent for the effective recovery of BPA present in some river water. The BPA-IM consist of copolymer of 4-vinylpyridine (4-VPy) and acrylonitrile (AN), which has a functional group which hydrogen bond is possible with hydroxyl group of BPA. In order to examine the selectivity to BPA for BPA-IM samples with different molar ratio, the adsorption equilibrium experiment was carried out using BPA and guest substances having similar molecular structures to BPA. As a result, on the BPA-IM consist of BPA:4-VPy:AN=1:3:21 (molar ratio), the adsorption ratio of BPA to BPA-IM was 63.0 percent at 3 hours later from the adsorption experimental start, and the adsorption ratio was higher than the guest substances except BPA. Furthermore, in order to use widely as an adsorption material, a new composite material which the BPA-IM was coated on polyester string was developed.
