摘要

An approach based on artificial intelligence techniques is proposed to develop an automated fixturingsystem that can interpret the semantic information of features of a 3-D object, created in acomputer-aided design system, and suggest the possible clamping conditions on the object. Thispaper reports the preliminary work that investigates the suitability of using a blackboard frameworkas a problem-solving model to realize such a system. It describes the creation of functional knowledgesources (KSs)(for fixture design) in detail and demonstrates their applications in a cooperativeproblem solving environment. A preliminary system architecture implemented in the GBB blackboardsystem has been presented in the paper.
