Based on environmental data, including temperature and humidity measured using a verification test house, an evaluation method has been developed to quantitatively predict the probability of snow freeze-thaw damage on the solar power generation system. With the cooperation of the Hokkaido Northern Regional Building Research Institute (Hokkaido Prefectural Cold Region Rousing and Urban Research Institute), the elements contributing to snow freeze-thaw damage were analyzed and damage occurrence probability was calculated. In addition, the stress in a snow retainer bracket caused by snow re-freezing was analyzed and the snow-cracking phenomenon was visually captured using a remote monitoring system. The quantification of snow freeze-thaw damage confirmed the potential for installing building material integrated type solar power generation systems in cold-weather snow-covered regions.
