Glass is used in various products in a wide range of fields from manufacturing to medical equipment. Glass is hard and brittle materials, when the undeformed chip thickness is less than a micrometer, it can be machined in a ductile mode, like metals. Ductile mode cutting of glass can be done by an ultra-precision lathe. In glass cutting, tool life is very short. The short tool life is an especially serious problem during glass cutting using diamond tools. This short tool life is a barrier to the practical usage of ductile mode cutting of glass.
