Market May Recover Sooner Than Expected: Low natural gas prices are rapidly eroding coal's share of power generation market

The steep downturn in the oil and gas industry appears to have a relatively modest effect on attendance at recent industry trade shows. Attendance at the 21st Annual Gas Compressor Association's Expo and Conference in March was off only about 5%. The giant Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in early May saw a 12.5% drop in attendance; the lowest attendance since 2012. However, there were still 93,400 attendees, and the number of companies attending actually increased by 114 to 2682.
