Capacity Development for Improved Livestock Production: The Case of Farmer Livestock School in the Philippines

As development think tanks continue to struggle with both the theory and practice of development, approaches emerged and one of which is th concept of Capacity Development (CD).CD is a fundamental part of the mandates of many local and international organizations. Through CD, they aim tostrengthen capacities throughtraining and research, technical and policy advice, and providing venues for exchange of experiences.Many development practitioners believe that all development involves CD,but there is lack of common understanding withinboth the local and international community on the process of CD and the impact of many such interventions. Specifically, there has been alack of literatures on the process of a sector-specific CD and the nature of the relationship between capacity and performance.Therefore, this study aims to present a result chain within the complex process of CD, using knowledge which isan element of capacity, as the baseline of analysis. Furthermore, it seeks to determine the factorsthat influence change in knowledge and the relationship between knowledge and income. Results of the study are necessary to make sound development plans and informed decision for future investment in CD.
