When the first invitations to contribute to this special issue of the Comptes Rendus Chimie de I'Academie des sciences "Phosphorus Chemistry Today" were sent, we were two guest editors, Pascal Le Floch and myself. As you know, sadly Pascal passed away early this year, 2010, and our community has lost one of its most creative and dynamic members, and many of us lost a friend. This special issue is entirely dedicated to Pascal, as a tribute to his memory and his passion for research.
