Holographic display is a realistic three-dimensional (3D) display because it produces an exact copy of the wave front for light scattered by an object. Holographic display demands wide viewing angles for three-dimensional visualization. However, currently, the viewing angle 9 of holographic displays based on conventional SLMs is less than 3 degrees in accord with the formula of θ=2sin~(-1)(λ/2p). Note that pixel size p of conventional SLM (liquid crystal device, digital mirror device) is in a range of 10-100 urn. Downsizing pixels of SLMs is limited by the driving current lines and other limitations of fabrication process. In this study, we fabricated submicron two-dimensional array of pixels for a holographic display with a wide viewing angle. The pixels were driven by a thermomagnetic recording system.
