Main approaches and technical designs for the use of metal hydrides in systems for provision the vacuum in power-generating and technological equipment, which use isotopes of hydrogen as a working medium, have been considered. The analysis of studies and developments in this field allows to state that the most promissing is the creation of multifunctional metal hydride elements, included into the structure units of working zone of vacuum chamber (e.g. as electrodes in plasma-supporting device) and made of hydride forming materials that are the reversible low pressure hydrogen absorbents. Here, besides the solution of auxiliary problems of compact storage, purification and programmed injection of hydrogen isotopes into vacuum chamber, in some cases the effective pumping-out and the rise in the efficiency of the system operation as a whole is provided.
