Effective Noise, Vibration Solution For A PD Pump System: Pulsation suppression device beneficial on Shell triplex pump

Pulsations can be a source of vibrations, noise, and other dynamic problems in positive displacement pumps. A triplex pump at Shell Chemical's Geismar, Louisiana, facility had high suction piping vibrations that were causing insulation and pipe restraint damage, shortened pump valve life, and could be heard "from the road" when running. The Shell Geismar facility manufactures detergent alcohols (0.7 B lb./yr [0.32 × 10~9 kg/yr]) ethylene glycol (0.83 B lb./yr [0.38 × 10~9 kg/yr]), alpha olefins (2 B lb./yr [0.91 × 10~9 kg/yr]), and a line of ethylene-based industrial chemicals used in a range of modern applications.
