Tracing its Roots: The evolution of PSE Engineering

PSE Engineering Compression Systems (PSE-CS) has become a leading provider of natural gas compressor systems for underground storage and gathering applications across Europe, Russia and the MENA (Middle East-North Africa). While PSE-CS was officially established in 2007, the evolution of the present day company began in 1996 with Wartsila. Wartsila, a producer of large highspeed combustion engines, was looking, to expand into the oil and gas industry. In 1996, Wartsila partnered with Ariel Corp., which manufactures medium- to high-speed reciprocating compressors, and with Maschinenbau Halberstadt GmbH, a compressor manufacturer and packager from Germany. With Machinenbau Halberstadt's knowledge of packaging compressor systems and Wartsila's engine expertise, the two companies formed a specialized team able to engineer and construct reciprocating compressor packages utilizing Ariel compressors and Wartsila engines ranging in size from 67.1 to 10,728 hp (50 kW to 8 MW).
