The efficiency of the centrifugal compressor is a bit less than well-designed positive displacement compressors, but the centrifugal compressor gained advantage because of higher reliability, considerably smaller size and absence of shaking forces. Today, gas turbine-driven centrifugal compressors represent a large portion of the total compressor operating fleet in various process industries.
