Brown trout samples from six streams of the Velikata Salma basin were shown to differ in allele frequencies of the AAT-1,2~*, G3PDH-2~*, LDH-5~*, MDH-2~* and MPI~* loci. A significant difference in allele frequencies of several loci was also found between samples collected in three streams in different years. Individual generations differed in allele frequencies in two populations. The LDH-5~* and MPI~* allele frequencies differed in samples of fish emerged in the same year but captured in different years. The temporal variation in allele frequencies was assumed to result not only from gene drift, but from natural selection as well. The contribution of the difference between samples from individual streams to the total gene diversity was significantly higher than that of the difference between samples of individual years, suggesting the stream populations are isolated from each other.
