This paper optimized the number of transmit antennas N{sub}(TX) and step size of control carrier phase θ{sub}(Step) and evaluated the impact of the number of paths and the fading correlation among antennas of the closed-loop mode multiple antenna transmit diversity (MATD) by computer simulations in transmit power-controlled W-CDMA forward link. Computer simulation results showed that the required transmit E{sub}b/N{sub}0 for average BER =10{sub}b (13) is decreased most for N{sub}(TX)=3(2) without (with) antenna diversity reception and θ{sub}(Step)=π/2. We also proposed the verification algorithm of the transmitted carrier phase in which the error detection probability is adaptively updated based on the measured HER before channel decoding and showed that the MATD with the proposed verification could decrease the required transmit E{sub}b/N{sub}0 by approximately 0.3-0.5 dB compared to the case with conventional verification when the fading maximum Doppler frequency f{sub}D is larger than 80 Hz.
