An eye glass has only two surfaces but can be designed to have a variety of capabilities. Such as to correct power error, compensate the lack of accommodation, and make prism effect to meet the patient's needs. This report tries to explain how these variety of functions are realized under the extremely limited condition, i.e., only two optical surfaces, especially how progressive addition power is designed and how to evaluate its performance. At the end some hot topics about ophthalmic lens will be introduced.
