The L-arginine-nitric oxide (NO) pathway modulates both normal and pathobiology in various cells, including neuronal and vascular endothelial cells, where nanomolar concentrations of NO are con-stitutively generated under the influence of neuronal (n) and endothelial (e) nitric oxide synthase (NOS), respectively. The inducible isoform of NOS (iNOS), triggered by inflammatory cytokines, generates micromolar levels of NO that modulate various pathophysiological processes.1 In this issue of the journal, Mendes Ribeiro et at. have implicated the L-arginine-NO pathway in the pathophysiology of dengue haemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS)#
