摘要

Background: The sympathetic preganglionic neurons (SPN) of the intermediolateral cell column (IML) play a critical role in the maintenance of vascular tone. We have previously shown a co-localization of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and its signalling molecule cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) within SPN.Aim: In this study we have undertaken a comparative neuro-anatomical analysis of nNOS and cGMP expression in the SPN of the mature normotensive Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR).
