Supervisory/control and protective relay systems for power systems have been developed by introducing new technologies to contribute to stable power supplies. In June 1993, we proposed "open distributed systems" taking international standards andde facto standards into account, and have been supplying such systems since that time.This paper describes the next breakthrough in this field : a new system that we are proposing applying Internet/intranet technologies, which are now changing people's lives in various areas. Such a system cannot be realized by using the standard/opentechnologies of the Internet/intranets alone but also requires special techniques, which we have developed, satisfying the conditions of fast response time and high reliability generally demanded for process control applications.
