Recently AC adapters have been required to be small, lightweight, low-cost and low-standby-power-consumption. To meet these requirements, Fuji Electric has developed a power IC (integrated circuit) for switching power supply control with a 700 V power MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor) and a PWM (pulse width modulation) controller integrated on a chip. This paper outlines the newly developed power supply IC for 5W- class low power AC adapters. This IC achieved low supply current of 200 μA at MOSFET switching by utilizing low-current-consumption circuits and optimizing the internal circuits.
