摘要

IHI has installed the insertion device for the soft X-ray beamline of JAERI in SPring-8. The new type device is a variably polarizing undulator, which was originally proposed by JAERI. By moving the relative position of the four magnet rows, theundulator can generate a linear (in the horizontal and vertical plane) elliptical, and circularly polarized radiation. The most important performance is switching of right and left circularly polarized radiation at high speed. The design, fabrication, and tests for me whole systems were carried out which included the driving girder for positioning the magnet rows percisely, vacuum system, beam correcting system, and control system.
