Glass and plastic bottles sorting system

The amount of household waste has increased to over 50 million tons per year. 60% (in volumetric ratio) of total waste is derived from containers and packages of waste such as glass and plastic bottles, and cans. The Containers and PackagesRecycling Law was enacted on April 1, 1997, and requires such waste to be collected separately for recycling. Glass bottles in waste must be separated by colors for recycling as the material for new bottles. PET bottles must also be separated from othertypes of plastic containers, which are now reused as textiles, and for other purposes. IHI has developed a new automatic separation device for glass and plastic bottles, which is described here, to eliminate manual separation.
