PCB Decomposition and TEQ Variation in Subcritical and Supercritical Water

摘要

The products formed from PCB treatment with subcritical and supercritical water were determined by GC-MS, and the TEQ under various conditions was calculated. Transformer oil was used as the low level PCB (below 100 ppm) in this study. The lowest temperature at which PCB was decomposed without formation of toxic products was 350 deg C. Above 350 deg C, the PCB was completely decomposed and formed no toxic products, and the transformer oil could be recycled as fuel after the treatment. However, PCDFs, which are toxic, were formed by the treatment below 350 deg C. This result indicates that a PCB treatment system using subcritical and supercritical water can be used in a practical plant.
