Development of Tuned Mass Damper

摘要

IHI has developed small vibration damper during last ten years. This damper is tuned mass damper to decrease vibrations of main fittings and local structures of a ship. At present, IHI uses a magnetic damper as a damping equipment for tuned mass damper and apply to actual vessels. The use of magnetic damper improved the damping characteristics of previous damping equipment. Vibration tests were carried out to confirm the capacity of the tuned mass damper with the magnetic damper and superior performance was demonstrated. Based on the tests, the device was installed on a VLCC to solve vibration problems with VLCC dodger wings. As the result of this application, the vibration level was reduced to 1/3 of the previous level.
